I think the admin was toying with idea to run a streaming site and at this point it looks as if he abandoned that project.

I very much hope that he will soon entirely focus only on this site. Some years ago Usenet-crawler used to be one of the best indexers around!

IMHO this site needs some dedication, bug fixes, get rid of the crawlers, properly cap the free limits, introduce some various levels of BFF/ paid accounts, etc...

Nobody can sustain a site like this one, running 99% on freeloaders and 1% BFFs.

I understand his ANTI-Commerce ideology, but one can't eat love. I'd prefer if he makes some money from this site and if he can't invest time to support it, then hire others to do the job.

Anyhow, I will stick around for some more time.. but one day... if this site is still half abandoned ... I guess I will have no choice but just to create my own tiny little private indexer- just for my own needs.

I created my own indexer, for my own purposes, and my ISP cried...so did my wallet from the electricity bill! Just running the indexer with no leechers requires some heavy duty kit and bandwidth.

On Sept 20 he said via an update here on the home page that he was moving, and didn't say how long till he could dedicate more time to this place once again. I hope OP is well. This is still my favorite place, and love that I can access ebooks and music from 8 years ago if necessary.

@BeastleeUK

200Mbit down here, 50Mbit up... no FUP Have a spare rig here... anyhow, before this convo I've never considered running it from home. Cloud instance was on my mind.. just covering 5-10 groups....

@KK99KK - Mine was 150/10Mbit but with NZedB I was pulling almost full bandwidth 24/7 scanning NZBs. CPU was maxed too processing the obfuscation, and nzbs for 5 groups. :( Was all a bit much just to guarantee it for me hehe.

Cloud based definitely best, just depends on costing it I suppose.You were dead right with a need to properly fund it.

Just a shame the support that was added doesn't seem to be covering in the admin's absence. I'm sure their are a few here that could cover it but I guess it's hard to trust others in this day and age.

The above said, it looks like things may be improving again.

I also spun up my own indexer, but I am not having any hardware issues. Its completely private, not even discover-able (easily) on the internet and it doesn't take up that much hardware. I am struggling with the regex's a bit so I dont grab as much as I could. But still get a shit ton.

If someone wants to play on it and work on the regex's I might be willing to open it up.

The TV section is running well - better than ever now many of the nzb's have multiple files and pars unlike the single private large file. Just other sections are broken - movies, music, etc - nothing in 5 days
